Audax across
the Cotswolds
Two audax events running from the Morris Memorial Hall, Kelmscott near Lechlade. The rides begin near to Kelmscott Manor, the country home of William Morris from 1871 to 1896 and travel in a north westerly direction through many pretty Cotswold villages with oodles of beautiful countryside views along the way. As the Cotswolds are involved there are several undulations but not enough to qualify these as really hilly rides
What is an audax?
An audax is a very simple bike ride. We provide you with a written route sheet or gpx file which you follow to call at a succession of 'controls'. At a control there might be someone to stamp your card, or you may need to collect a receipt from a cafe in the appropriate village. There are also 'info controls' where you collect some information - for example the distance from a signpost. Controls occur only every 30-50km and they prove that you have completed the minimum distance of 100 or 200km.
The events are NOT races and generous time limits are allowed. At the end you will find the Arrivee where you hand your completed card to the organiser for validation. For more information Audax UK is the home of long distance cycling and their website provides some useful tips: audax.uk/
